Just got a offer from AAA in the mail today... no thanks, I'm not interested. Day before, a offer from my insurance co, $20.65 for insurance, $500,00 deductable per ocurance... old stuff not included, ie, stoves, refers, heating/cooling equipment... It pays nothing, pure profit. I do not use my debit card or other CC's on the net anymore... I don't think anything is secure anymore... just saw where 100 million CC numbers were pulled from the net... watch out friends!

Automation and technology just means no more little problems...

Had someone try to rent an apartment once that had assumed the identity of someone that passed away as a child...

I don't know if not having a credit card would protect a person from identity theft.

As for new credit cards, loans and finance in general... I've just about had my fill...

Time for a simpler life.

I don't know what the solution is, or will be. I do use a credit card for nearly everything, but I also save all receipts, enter all of them into Quicken, reconcile them with the bill each month, pay the bill in full each month, and check their website at least a couple of times during the month to see if there's anything suspicious there.

But naturally, like most folks, I get lots of junk mail trying to sell me everything imaginable, and a lot of it comes with my name and address on it, but from companies I've never done business with and have no idea how they got my name and address.

I use my credit card online, but not my debit card anymore. If something bad happens with a debit card, it can take a while to clear it up and during that time, the money is frozen in your bank account. Also, it opens your account up to being emptied (your money gone).

Credit cards on the other hand are relatively safe. If something bad happens, you can dispute it and not have to pay a red cent. Plus, they aren't stealing (your money)...it's the banks.

I track my cards/accounts daily. It only takes a minute. Pretty much habit now. I can tell quickly if something is awry. Like Bird, I pay off my credit cards each month. I just don't charge more than I can afford to pay. I'm not rich.

I got myself debt free about 5 or 6 years ago. Simplier is much better;). I don't need the bank to tell me if I can afford something, my bank account does that;). I keep 2 credit cards, just because, and use them on a very rare basis(usually while travelling or online). When they are used they are paid off that month without fail. I signed up to have credit card offers stopped awhile back. I have gotten a couple in the last month, I guess the "stop" expired.

Browsing thru the forums, I came across this one - "Trust".

Nothing.. absolutely nothing, works without it. Business, friendships, love.

In this country; at this point in our history - we are nearly dysfunctional; due, in most part, to a breakdown in Trust.

Many, many reasons... but if we're gonna keep goin' for another 200 years, there needs to be some huge patches layed down on the road of Trust.

Best regards.

Well said, a mans hand shake used to mean something. Each one of us can do our part by being that way in our lives. It may catch on.
