Trying not to mix hydraulic oil

Bought a used Bradco backhoe for the TC 45 D. It was used on a Case skidsteer. I recently changed my hydraulic / hydrostatic fluid and have no idea what was in the skid steer. There is also a moisture issue as the unit is 4 years old stored outside. Would 90% of it come out if I placed the return line in a container and extended each ram? Is there an easier way ? Thanks.

You can try draning the hoses the best you can. Check what type of condition the fluid that you take out is. People move implements around all the time so unless the fluid is really bad I wouldn't worry much. You got some pretty good filters in that tractor to protect it.

You can drain it that way, remember there is oil on both sides, so you need to go both ways into the bucket unless a cyl is fully retracted (or extended) now.

I think you have the best procedure for draining the old oil. I also think it's probably okay, but since the unit has been outside for 4 years, draining the oil out will tell you a lot about the condition of the cylinders. If the oil is murky or rusty, you might need a cylinder rebuild. Most likely it will be fine. Since there was only oil in the cylinders to begin with, it's pretty hard for moisture to get in. Worth checking tho...

I drained one outrigger to get it to fit on the trailer. The oil looked really dark. No real indication of moisture. I guess it just made me nervous so I will try to do the best I can to release the present oil. Thanks for the info.. jr
