Trying to find our way through pros and cons of different tractors

I have found a case 448 for sale, it comes with a mower deck, blade, tiller and snow blower. What would be a fair price for this? Is there anything I should watch specifically for or check on it?

I never got a chance to check many tractors out as the biggest place I know of was in a town that has been closed due to flooding and our new place flooded as well so move in as not been as planned.

Welcome! As others have said, look around and compare. Nice used tractors aren't scarce only in TripleR's area. We bought new the last two times because anything used in very nice shape was not priced significantly less than a new tractor.

Don't buy anything too small. I have trees, sheds and a creek running through the property to contend with and my 32HP tractor with a 6' rear finish mower works perfectly. Unless I'm going like a maniac I can swing the mower around things like the (abandoned) tetherball pole leaving an uncut area not a whole lot bigger than a football.

In areas where appearance matters I dug out a bit and mulched around obstacles. In other cases I do "chemical mowing" around things. I mow for a widow acrross the road and she has <1/2 acre with a few trees with landscape timbers around them. Probably 15 minutes mowing, a quick walk around with a string trimmer and hit the walks and driveway with a leaf blower and done in no time.

I wouldn't be too concerned about noise. The mower blades probably make more noise than my engine.

I was going to buy one of those back in the late '70's...only to mow with...but I got a Ford 2000 w/loader for same $...

Onan engines are pretty good...but not as common as Briggs & Kohler...

unless I knew the person that had it, and it was cheap, i'd probly not buy it...i'd check to see if parts are still available for the tractor...Onan engine parts are...
