Trying to find the Boomer 8N market research

Someone had posted a market research PDF several years back before the Boomer 8N was released. I've tried finding that document several times and fail every attempt. Thus this post... Does anyone have it? Can you post it here or DM me? (if we even have direct messaging, that is).

I always figured that tractor was the manifestation of an hallucination. If there was any prior market research done, it would not be an example I'd use in a positive way.

I found it fascinating. I guess when you're buying an iconic tractor, they can peg you. Would love to have it again, as I've referenced in numerous conversations regarding marketing and knowing one's market.

The Boomer 8N is not an iconic tractor and never was. If it were, the limited number that were produced would have sold in less than a year rather than sitting on dealer lots till they grew hair, then showing up in auctions with between 5 and 100 hours having never been retailed. They were an example of an overpriced forced "collector" item featuring an unproven drivetrain that was introduced just in time for a major world economic crisis.

One rule of consumer economics is that items marketed as having collector value rarely do. Promotional and specialty retail items must attain collector status organically.

I don't know about you Rick, but our phone rang off the hook for quite awhile with guys interested in that tractor... until they heard the price and how much tech they packed into it. Had they built a simple affordable 30Hp tractor with that crazy 8N styling I think it could have done quite well. I agree it had little to do with what the market wanted.

I know the boomer was not iconic. The 8n was. Your choosing the boomer 8n (the presumptive buyer) over any of the other models in a saturated market, ties into what an 8n means to you (noted in the article that I'm seeking).

The original was certainly a practical piece of equipment while the boomer certainly was not. But the "practical" buyer was not their target.

If you wanted a practical piece of 30hp New Holland product, buy the T1520 (which happens to compete with dozens of other budget-minded tractors).

No, the Boomer 8N was tapping into nostalgia.

With both of your comments, I'm all the more interested in that market study.

Here is some market research. The Shibaura 50 HP engine and the CVT transmission for a price I was comfortable paying was what made me buy one. The looks certainly played into it, after one look my wife told me it was pretty and to buy it. I have to keep her happy.

I actually liked them. I wish others would make a retro looking model like Massey is now doing with the 35. Unfortunately it is not available in North America.

It's too bad they weren't a bigger success. But I have ZERO new Holland support in my area.
