I have noticed lately that when using the BH, the outriggers will not stay down, I have to keep pushing them down every so often. I also noticed that when the tractor is parked, the outriggers will slowly start going down, not real far, but they do move. The BH boom will also start going down over time or when riding it. The bucket it self will open up also. It doesn't seem to take too long, maybe a couple of hours. It goes down a few inches or so. I also noticed when I took the BH off of the tractor, that after a day, it is completely down. What should I be looking for here to fix this? I wouldn't think it would be all of the piston seals.

Just the way it seems to work on some tractors. I had the seals in an outrigger replaced because it was leaking down and, sure enough, no change whatsoever. The other outrigger stays up just fine.

Those more familiar with hydraulics may have a better answer about whether it could be a seal in the spool.

Since it is a recent occurrence, and has not been an issue before, it would seem that something has changed.

Knowing the make, model, hours would also help.

Does everything seem to leak down at approximately the same rate?

It is a BX 22 with about 1700 hours on it.

It is not completely uncommon for the cylinders on the BH to move some. With the number of hours on your machine, it may just be some wear. Even my brand new BH65, I will have to bump the boom up every so often if I have it on and driving around. I keep a strap on my outriggers when the BH is off the tractor because they will slowly move down even though I don't think they are supposed to be able to with the hydr. dissconnected.

Hopefully someone with a hydr. schematic might have a better idea of what might be the culprit.

Good Luck ! :)

All hydraulics leak down its just a question of how fast.

Have you noticed hydraulic fluid leaking anywhere? If you are going to replace seals I would start with those with visible leaks.

My B21s outriggers and backhoe leak down when parked. The outriggers do not loose pressure while I am digging but I am normally trenching so I move forward every 10 minutes or less. When I trench in dusty conditions I can see a buildup of oily dust under the outriggers so they certainly have some leakage.

I park my B21 with the outriggers extended and both buckets on the ground. This makes it harder to drag off, prevents kids from dropping the buckets and prevents the bucktet falling on anything.

All hydraulics will leak down eventually unless there are lock valves in the circuit (and there are no leaks internal or external in the cylinders). No lock valves in your backhoe. Spool valves all leak a certain amount due to the internal clearance they must have to slide inside the valve body. They will leak by more as they wear. It is possible that your cylinders need resealed, but like was said, that may or may not help.

Most times, any device that is meant to constantly support something will have a mechanical lock but since the stabilizers are used at various stages of deployment, having a mechanical lock is a bit difficult so therefore it is the cylinder itself that must maintain the length of travel you select. A cylinder will always leak down, sometimes faster than others but will always leak down. A cylinder with a few hours on it will probably leak down faster than newer ones but there are no hard and fast rules.
