Well the end of the tach cable housing going to the injector pump(?) split so the cable pops out and it is seeping oil. Tried to do a quick duct tape mend but that is not too good. I wanted to take the cable off to look for a replacent but I can't reach under the dash to unscrew it. I could not even figure out how to get the dash off. Am I blind, stupid or just missing something? Any suggestions?

I have to dig in to my dash as well this weekend for a switch repair. It appears that the best way to access the dash basis other posts is by removing the gas tank and going in from the backside.

Question along the same lines.... when I turn on the ignition of my TS1610, the only light that comes on is the first one. Should they all light up when you turn the ignition key on?

On my TS1610F, the first light on the left (charging light) and the middle light (oil pressure light) are both on when the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position (or any of the other two headlight positions) until the motor is started. Then they go off. The third light (high temperature) stays off unless the engine is overheated.

The only way to to get to the tach cable is by removing the fuel tank unless you have triple jointed wrists. Tanks comes out pretty easy though.

Thanks John, is it bolted down anywhere? While looking for way to get the dash off the tank seemed to move freely a bit.

My tank is secured with a strap over the top, one end has a hook into the frame and the other has threaded section. You need to disconnect the fuel line (have some rags handy or drain the tank) and do a little jiggling but it comes out ok.
If you need to do any mods or repairs to your warning light etc this is the time to do it. I changed my oil and temp lamps to LED's, had to leave the alt indicator as a lamp though.
My tach cable was busted and I had another made at local supplier (Flexible Drive Agencies, just in case any one in Aus is interested).
Good luck

Well, I did manage to get the cable off thanks to you guys. I drained the tank and removed it, not a real big problem. I was able to locate a cable from a dealer in KY and should have it tomorrow. (now to just hope it's the right one) It seems to be a replacement one and it is twice as long as the one I took off, but that just means a new routing plan. Took advantage of the tractor being down to change the oil and filter.

Ok, got the cable this morning and put it all back together. I was dreading a lost of prime, so I took the precautions that I hoped would help. There is a valve on top of the fuel filter , so I closed that before taking off the fuel line. When I hooked it back up this morning, I opened the valve and opened the 2 bleeders on top of the filter (one at a time), no air came our at all. Fired it up and away she went, I was a smilin guy.
