pulled my down position handle this afternoon it wedged in a log. When I pushed the handle up nothing happened. It is in the down position and will not respond to up or down handle motion.

Look at the spool and tell us if the spool is moving in and out.

Is the relief activated.

Remove the rod end hose from the cyl and continue to extend the rod. If fluid comes from the rod end, that would mean that the nut on the shaft has come off, and fluid is flowing through the piston and then you will have no movement.

the rod is fully extended

What JJ is trying to get you to test is if seals are by-passing or nut on cylinder rod has come loose. Take the hose off of the rod end cylinder, put a steel plug (that fits the hose fitting) in the end of the hose, now while running the splitter push the lever to rod extend and see if any oil flow out the cylinder, if so you have internal leakage in cylinder. No oil flow out cyliner, then next step - move lever to rod retract and see if the hose gets stiff (has pressure in it.). If not seeing any oil flwo out of the cylinder and hose is not getting stiff, then either the flow is not getting switched in the valve or the pump coupler "might" be slipping uner load.
Do those initial checks and report back. From there we can help go deeper if needed.

Thanks, I'll try to do these checks tomorrow. When it stopped in the down position, I thought I heard a pop sound.

That could have been the nut coming off the shaft.

If you have continuous flow through the cyl, then you know.

Yes.

Use an adapter to install the gage in one of the ports and momentary push the lever.
