Anyone tried one of these on a 3 point splitter? They only describe it for the gas powered models, but the base design (wedge height, beam dimensions etc) seem to be the same and I wonder if it would fit. They don't list prices--so not sure how much it costs, the first local TSC didn't have one (or any idea about them).
Thanks,

Yes, they will fit on the 3 point splitters. It's a new product, as far as I know, TSC hasn't picked it up for their stores yet, but should be available via special order (TSC stores can order anything SpeeCo sells). I'm sure pricing is set, but I don't know it without doing some digger.

It works pretty well in softer woods, hard woods aren't recommended, it takes a lot of power to push a 4 way through hardwoods.

Update--found an employee who called Speeco for me--answer was new product, available 1/2009, price about $70.00. Will go back in for the spring splitting season and see if they are stocking them at that point.

I purchased the Northern Tool 4 way wedge 2 years ago and frankly wasn't impressed. If you look closely at the wedge the verticle section is two pieces of steel welded together. The horizontal pieces are two wedges welded to the verticle piece. The problem is that the verticle section isn't sharp. It is nearly a quarter of an inch wide so the wood is broken apart rather than split. When the wood passes through and comes in contact with the horizontal wedges it splits just fine. But again, the verticle piece is just too blunt.

The other problem is that the two pieces of steel that make up the verticle section are welded from the insde. I noticed that it would damage the wedge on my splitter when I took the 4 way wedge off. I had to touch up the wedge with a grinder several times.

For soft woods it worked just OK. But for hard woods I think its a bad design. If they improved the manufacturing process to make the verticle piece sharp like the horizontal piece then I think it would work.

I built a 4 way wedge for my 3 point splitter and for the right wood it is awsome (Straight 8" to 14" Diameter). I Also used two pieces of flat plate for the vertical except I butt welded them together and built up weld and ground down a point. No weld inside to bung up the main wedge.
