I've Google till my fingers are sore from typing. What is the difference if there is any between a Tube patch and Tire patch? I've some patches left in my shop and the appear rather thick so I'm assuming they're "Tire" patches. I need to patch a tube and want the correct patch? Are tube patches thinner? I've tried the local Oreilly's and the NAPA store and the counter people are confused when I ask if they have "Tube" patches. Yes, I'm workin' on a 7.50-16 front drive tractor tire. bjr

I'm not sure. But, a tube patch as I know it is basically the same thickness material as the tube. A tire patch, usually a RADIAL patch is a heavier "thing" that gets clamped on to set. I don't know if there is a tire patch that is not a RADIAL patch.

Some tire patches are both a patch and a plug. They are designed to keep water from getting at the steel belts in the tire and rusting. Other than that I would assume a tube path will expand like a tube while the tire patch is more likely very stiff.

If the glue is the same, do you have another old tube you could cut up for the patch material?

When we were doing both back in the 1950s, the only difference was in the device used to hold them in place while the patch got literally "burned" in place.

"Iron on" or "roll and stick on" ones now probably stick as well as the old burn on ones we used and are probably near the same for tube vs. inside tire. Inside the tire is much rougher though. Cannot imagine an "iron on" or "roll and stick on" would hold there.
