I have a trailer tire that keeps going flat every few days. The tire has a couple plugs so I was thinking its time for a tube. How safe is a tube going to be on the trailer or truck tires?

If you do tube the tire the plugs will have to removed. They will wear a hole in the tube. I wouldn't tube a tire. They have never held up on road vehicles for me.

I've had very good luck with tubes... some of my antique cars have tires and tubes I installed in the 1970's and they really hold air much better in my experience than tubeless tires.

My 12 ply trailer tires came with tubes and have also been great... one caveat... these are bias ply belted, non radials... some tubes will say not for Radial Tires

I too have had good results fitting tubes in tyres that leak, on-road radials included.

I've heard tubing a tubeless tire is not a good idea. Hauling a load over a long distance will cause the tubless tire to overheat and the tire will come apart.
My neighbor hauled a tractor from Montana to Washington on a borrowed trailer. The tires had been tubed. He blew out four tires on the trip 'cause they were tubed.
Around the farm probably wouldn't be a problem.

Tire shop did say the tube has to be "Radial Rated" and any tire using tubes de-rates the speed rating...

I really never drive more than 55 with the trailer... my speedo is fast by a few miles. I set the cruise at 58-59 and enjoy the ride...

Many tire shops around here no longer stock tubes... special order only.

Thanks for the replys.

I think the radial tube will get the job done.

tubes on big truck trailers is common.

I think if the tire is good enough to re-use, I'd pull it and toss it into a water tank and see wher eit's leaking, then dismount it, remove all the plugs and PATCH the tire from the inside where it's leaking..

Don't forget a lot of wheels are made to accept the valves of a tube - they aren't in the right location.
