I am considering purchasing a Mahindra 4035 with loader/backhoe. However, I have a question: are Mahindras as dependable and tough as Kubota, John Deere, etc.?

The reason I am asking is this tractor purchase will be one I will keep until the wheels fall off, so give me the good, the bad and the ugly.

I have found Mahindra tractors to be quite good. I have one that is Mahindra built and one that Mitsubishi builds for Mahindra. The 4035 is a fairly new model built by Mahindra in India and have not heard of to many people getting them yet, but the few that have seem to be happy with them.

Have you sat on all three that you are considering? How good are the dealers, are they established tractor dealers or new guys in the area?
I feel that as far as dependability goes, the tractors are about equal in quality. As far as dealers, that may be a whole other story. Sit on all the models that you are considering and get a good feel of where all the different controls are, are they in what would be a natural position for you to use. They are not all the same and what feels good to one person, another person may not like.

I am also looking at Kubota,Massey Ferguson and John Deere . Each dealer is close and well respected . That is why I asked for help . As far as liking which tractor so far , MF and Mahindra are at the top of the list .... for now....

1500 or 1600 series? If you want more goodies, the 1600 series has a few more than the 1500 series. I'm guessing that the Mahindra is a bit heavier and might do a little more work. The 35 series Mahindra's look to be pretty nice tractors to me, but I am a bit partial.

The 4035 weighs 4367lbs and the Massey 1643 weighs 3384. Pump output and 3ph ratings are close. More things to think about.

It will be interesting to see the price differences. Will you be doing any grading with a box blade or rear blade? Getting any prices for rear remotes? I would at least price out as many factory remotes as possible. Massey should have 3 available and the Mahindra should have 2 available. If you're going to do much 3pt ground work, it's nice to have draft control. Std on the Mahindra, I think that it's an option on the Massey.

Whatever I get it is going to be a TLB , I already have a boxblade that I use with my Dad's Ford Jubilee . My Dad has just about every piece of equipment you can think of . This is to give it some much needed rest . Prices will come this next week .

Besides comparing tractors, you should be looking and asking about companion backhoes. I haven't heard much of MF backhoes, but the Bradco hoes:thumbsup: on Mahindras are heavy duty for their capacity.

Got prices this week. MF 1643 TLB $34k and Mahindra 4035 TLB $31000.Both dealers are well respected - I will go test both out when I get a chance.
