I checked the engine. It is a John Deere 3 cylinder gas engine. The numbers on the side are T26936/T30000. Near the numbers it says John Deere High Altitude Pistons. The guy I bought the tractor said when he bought it five years ago the motor was blown. He rebuilt it. He said he put $2900 dollars in parts into the engine including harded piston sleeves to run on unleaded gas. He said he has used it for the last five summers haying and it works well.
He said he thought the govenor might have malfunctioned prior to his getting the tractor and he had it bungeed to prevent that from happening again. We serviced the tractor and it starts well and seems to run well, but you need to run it with the choke on, I should say it runs better that way. I bought the previously mentioned stuff and we want to get it running correctly.
Obviously I hope there are no parts floating around in the engine. It does seem to run really well other than the above mentioned stuff. Any advise would be appreciated.
