Being new to tractor ownership, I am looking for opinions on which turf tires are better and are a good deal for my JD 950. It came with 16" 3 ring on the fronts and 44-18-20 turfs are on the rears and the few times I have gone over my lawn the ring tires have left some nasty ruts especially on turns.
The tractor is going to be used mainly for Brush Hoggin my back field but it came with a belly mower too so I would like to use it on my lawn as well. It doesn't have a FEL but looking at buying a Koyker in the spring. Bedise all that I think it will just look better.:)
Thanks to jgbanshee  from TBN I have a pair of rims coming for the recommended 27-8.50-15 front turfs and wanted to make sure I got tires that are going to work with the FEL and hold up to bush hoggin the field.

Ok let me ask this another way. I am looking at the Carlisle Turf Trac C/S. The 4 ply are rated at 1230 lbs and the 6 ply are 1570. If I put a FEL on it I am guessing that I will need the 6 ply but I don't really know. At 3140 lbs a pair, is that enough for the weight of the tractor (2650 lbs) and a fully loaded FEL 1300 lbs?. Or do I need a pair of tires with a 5000 lbs rating to take the entire weight of the tractor and the FEL? Does anyone even make a 27-8.50-15 tire rated that high?

If your going with an FEL..........go with the highest rated tire possible.

This is going to do 2 things. one is that it will handle the FEL weight better, and two, the higher rated turf tire 'may' withstand 'obstacles' in the field(may is a subjective term)

For FEL usage, be sure to put a 'counterweight' on the 3pt. that will lessen the load that the FEL must carry. The rule of thumb here is pound for pound on the 3pt.

Personally, I would get the 6 ply. The reason why is the field work. And even at that I would look at possibly filling with 'foam', instead of air.

Thanks for your reply Don, I'll keep the ring tires on till all the stumps are pulled and I am just mowing the field. Bought a pair of Carlisle Multi Trac C/S 6ply from tiresavings.com. They had the best price I could find on the web. Now I can take my time getting the rims sand blasted and painted.
Still a lot of stuff to clear around the edges of the field. I already cut 20 feet into that mess in the picture. Still have about 30 to go.

Hey Everyone looking for a great price on the Carlisle Multitrac C/S:

I needed a pair of 6-ply 23x8.50-12 turfs for the front of my Kubota B7610.
Tiresavings.com wanted $83 ea + $23.83 shipping to my door (for a total of $189 and change).

Summit Racing (wouldn't have thought they sold tractor tires too, but I guess ATV's could use 'em too) has 'em for $65.95 ea, and only wanted $11.90 to ship 'em!

Summit Racing ? High Performance Car and Truck Parts l Edelbrock, ACCEL, Moroso, K&N, MSD, Holley & More!
