Turkey nest?

I was weeding a hay field when I found a nest with five eggs. It was scratched lightly into the ground under one of the remains Johnson grass clumps. (I'm making good progress on killing it off. Simply remove the seed heads before maturity and it dies out in 2 to 3 years.). The eggs are larger than a large chicken egg, white to brownish in color. I'm pretty sure it is a turkey nest. Anyway, it was a cool find. Hopefully the picture uploads. Enjoy.

Si, looks like turkey nest to me. I used to see them often when I worked for US Forest Service.

Turkeys like to nest in tall grass next to woods to give the pullets cover. Yesterday my dog found a pullet and "played" with it until it died, sad. The neighbor farmer will leave some tall grass standing to give the pullets time to get big. Its a wonder there are turkeys given how vulnerable they are from egg to flight.

I am in Quebec, north of Montreal where it gets very cold in our winters and we usually get 3 ft of snow over about 12 to 20 'events'.
To my total surprise last winter (early spring) I observed 12 wild turkeys crossing the road.
I never thought they were this far north nor that they could survive our harsh winters.

Wild turkeys in my back 10 acres have their nests under the small evergreens I have rowed up. One of my dogs with a soft mouth will bring me the eggs sometimes. I have to find the nests and put them back.

We had a Chesapeake years ago come sauntering up in the yard with 3 turkey eggs in his mouth, the knothead dropped them into my hand when i told him to, was able to trace his steps in the high grass & replace them.
I've seen several in the fields over the years, try to not mow until they've hatched.
