I do have the seat forward. I like to be close to the controls. They are my friends.

Sounds like the key control is not your friend.:)

Can't you guys simply remove the key while its running? Most of these will allow you to do so.

I bought a L3400 last week but have not received it yet. One thing I did do at two different dealers was get on the seat and swing my knees to see if I hit anything. I am 6'5" and have learned that many things like doors, car seats and airline seat rows are not made for normal size people like me :) But I was impressed by the room I had when sitting in the seat of the 3400. I do not foresee having a problem with my knees hitting the key.

I now have about 23 hours on my L3400. I haven't even come close to hitting the key with my knees. I had run the tractor for quite a few hours before I remembered what was mentioned in this post so I swung my legs back and forth to see what I would have to do to hit the key with my knee. It looks like I would have to slide the seat forward or sit on the edge of the seat and have my legs shortened by about 6". My knee is way above the key. I really don't see how I could ever accidentally hit the key when operating the tractor.
