I'm not trying to up my post count . . . really /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

But one last bit of advice. In ponds the size of yours or Sendero's, an automatic feeder is one of the quickest ways I know of to grow lots of fish. Just don't overfeed . . . 2-3 lbs per acre per day during the warmer months is plenty. Catfish will put on a couple of pounds per year on a steady diet of Purina Fish Chow.

fishman,

You need agricultural lime, not hydrated or quick lime. It will be in a powder form.

That is what I was afraid you would say. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I dumped five bags in my driveway where the builder kept bogging down and that stuff was tough on my face and eyes! Fortunately I had some ATV goggles handy to protect my eyes. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I assume the agent checked your water chemistry?

No, but she said all ponds in this area need lime. Like you said, she stated that lime should be added every five years or so. She said putting lime in my pond was kinda like putting lime on one's lawn... beneficial and hard to overdo.

a 1/4 acre pond is marginal for largemouth bass, but with some brushy cover and appropriate management, it will work.

That is good to know. I won't put any bass in initally but may try my luck w/ them in a couple of years.

Thanks for all the good information! I really appreciate it.
