1-I have two trailers to add this to. I am using the Tekonsha 50-85-313 Push To Test Breakaway Kit with Premium Charger on both. I want to keep them inside the frame edges. The box, plastic, can mount with four screws, but I am leaning toward simply taking some 1-1/4" flat steel and making two "L"s that will cradle the battery box and mount right through the boxes' existing holes and through the frame. I don't want the plastic box to crack due to vibrations and lose the whole box. I just want to give it a little more support. And, to use some carriage bolts and red Loctite to make it a little harder to steal. Has anyone done just a basic addition like this?
2- This unit has a charger, inside the box, and charges when hooked to the truck. I will have an outlet about ten feet from both trailers to hook up a Battery Tender 800 Waterproof 12V Battery Charger, mounted to the frame. I have been using these on my ATVs and RUVs, ZTR mowers and garaged vehicles without any problem. They seem to resist water and vibration very well. This way, if I don't use the trailer(s) for a while, the batteries will be fully charged as they are hooked up. Same question, has anyone done this, too?
Thanks for the time and the help...and any suggestions or experienced advice.
