Two cylinder JD pullers

We just started our Fair season for me it is the sled pulls. My newly restored 70 is running great, once I figure out what is going on with the scales we use at each fair will be able to start focusing on how to get the job done. One scale says I weighed 6400lbs I added 550lbs which should have me at 6950 or close but yesterdays scales showed I weigh 7600lbs putting me in a different class.
Each pull is different yesterday left the 15.5 tires at 12psi thinking I should have aired them down on a track with a lot of clay. Takes a little while to dial these twins in one run at a time and all different surface types.

Spend a BUNCH of time at the event learning how to read the track. If you pull with the same group of guys, focus on a couple successful pullers in lighter classes so you can get a feel as to how they adjust from track to track. That may help you keep ahead of some of the variables.

A lot depends on the group you run with and how competitive they are. Nothing to do with pulling but back in my kart racing days, there wasn't a single one that wouldn't back you in fight or give the shirt off their back. But when it came to racing, they were as tight lipped as a gold prospector. I spent many of my first season races "mowing the grass" as they say but I watched, listened and paid attention to details of the sport. From my second season on, I never finished worse than second. Since the karts ran in strict rule classes, it's 10% machine and 90% driver.

I hear you the boys I pull with are the same. Tight lipped, yup they are I have picked up on quite a few tips, just have to be more vigilant on setting the tractor up for the different tracks they are all different. Tire pressure is one important feature I have learned. This 70 with new engine has no lack of power for the weight I pull 7000lb, using first gear ( we are speed monitored to 3.5mph) Yesterday pulling in the 7500lb class finished in the middle should have been in the 7000lb class live and learn.

Final entry, After the last pull got serious about dialing in the 70 moved weight around adjusted tire pressure and other things it payed off. Yesterday came home with three trophies 7000,7500 full pull and unlimited. After the 7500 pull they asked me to weigh the tractor it weighed 7550 they could not believe it when one of the tractors I beat weighed 8200.
From now on will focus on the 7500 and unlimited the 70 is hitting on both cylinders.

There are a few video's on Facebook, the wife took a bunch of pictures that are still on her tablet. Our club let's the pullers run 1% over the weight class, 25lbs. under putting me to the good really surprised the ones who most always win that class . Next pull plan to remove wheel weights, replace them with suitcase weights on rear hanging brackets.

Start of the pull with 3 of my hardest critics, then the end did not do well here but learned volumes. After focusing on what could be holding me back every pull after that got better till this year every pull brought home a 1st place trophy. Now those critics are really looking at me. More changes are coming for next season.
