I'm undeniably too new to this resource to understand the rules, customs and practices.

I would call the Kubota seat replacement thread huge, and got a very quick response to a question I posed about it in this forum. Today (I think), another poster began a new thread about this identical topic.

When two current threads are so very similar, is it the custom to combine them or allow them to make their own way?

Seems it would be better to append the original thread to have all the conversation in one place.

Thanks.

It's not unusual to have two threads on nearly the same topic, but usually they are active during different time periods. The person creating the duplicate thread wasn't aware that a similar thread already existed in the archives.

This isn't all bad, because sometimes new ideas are presented, or new technology. Also, sometimes new threads are created because someone didn't want to "hijack" someone else's thread.

The reason similar threads aren't combined is that it would take a lot of someone's time to monitor the threads, and decide which were similar to which. And if they did combine them, then some information would certainly be lost by the consolidation.

Welcome to TBN. You'll no doubt see that a lot. No offense, but it's usually new members who do it. They will post the same thing in two or three different forums. Keeps the moderators busy. Something else that you will notice is old posts from a year or so back suddenly reappear due to newbies reading them and posting to it. It bumps it up to top of forum. Maybe a way to avoid that is to read the post, and if you have a similar situation and want to post, start a new thread. Still a great site and source of information.

Thanks for the responses, guys. Both of you make lots of sense. I just wonder if the originators of this site ever dreamed it would reach these lofty heights. Talk about losing a crop when you start digesting all there is here! Maybe that would be a good topic for a new thread!:D
