I was just reading a thread on ratchet straps and the subject of knots came up. Just curious how many people use knots or can tie any. I myself use knots daily rigging blocks/materials as a power lineman. My favorites include a bowline, square knot and the timber hitch. There are many more we tie on a daily basis but these can cover most basics. I was just curious what everyone else out there does.

My most common knot is the left-handed snarl.

One of my favorites is the tautline hitch. Very useful for adjusting lengths.

I used the prusik knot daily when I was a whitewater lifeguard. Great knot!

And I've got a special shoe tying knot that never comes undone until you pull the tag. I've had some shoes tied for more than a year.

First, tie an overhand knot right over left.
Then, make two bunny ears.
Tie the bunny ears left over right, but don't pull them tight.
Then tuck the right bunny ear behind and through again AND pull its tag line through with it.
Finally, snug both bunny ears down, and you'll see TWO loops over the knot, one on each side. They dress up real nice. It's a beautiful looking symmetrical knot and the two loops over the whole thing keeps it snug pretty much forever and eternity, yet you can pull either tag line and undo the thing just like a normal shoe knot.
