TYM233 HST
Hi everyone, new member, with a new 233 HST I bought 2 months ago. I've seen a few threads on intermittent starting but thought I'd add a new one to share my issue and also post anything I find out.

After about a month of very light operation, I went to use the tractor and it would not start, seemed to have plenty of battery but nothing when I tried to crank it. After 15 minutes of setting/releasing the brakes, shifting the PTO on and off, etc it suddenly cranked up and ran fine all day. That made me suspect one of the safeties was stuck, but could be coincidence.

Didn't use it for a week, then went to do some work yesterday and same thing (only this time I couldn't get it to start). Any thoughts? I can see the brake switch and it seems to be releasing fully when the brakes are applied. Fuses are ok in the panel on the bulkhead. Lights work fine, etc. Does anyone know where the other safeties are located for PTO, etc and if they are physical switches as well?

Thanks in advance. My dealer said he can come pick it up in about a week, so if I haven't come across a solution by then, I'll post whatever he comes back with.

Thanks,
Robert

Well if you are sure it isn't a broken or mis-adjusted break switch, my guess would be a short in the wiring at the bottom of the firewall under the dash. There are a couple threads with pictures on this, I believe.

Think I read something about a parking brake that has to be set. When you say brake are you referring to the parking brake or the foot pedal brake. Either may be out of adjustment. If your machine is hydro I have also read posts that the forward / reverse pedals can come out of adjustment so one peddle needs to be further one way or the other.

I know I am not much help here but use the search function on TBN and you will find lots of posts which are similar to yours.

Thanks, this model just has the one brake (well, split pedal) with a lever to lock them down. The brake switch is definitely not being pressed when the brakes are on (quite a bit of clearance), but I'll keep searching and see about testing it, in case it's failed.
The dealer mentioned that it's a two stage switch so that even though the brake lights are on, it could have failed on the safety circuit?
I've been digging through some of the other threads for other ideas.

Thanks!

Well the dealer brought a new brake switch by, and that fixed it.

Robert,
Glad to see the dealer makes house calls and stood behind his product.

I am on my 3rd break switch. Glad it was an easy fix.

I was impressed he drove out in the snow to check it out and happy it was an easy fix. I'm thinking I might try to pick up a spare or two.
