I have a TZ25DA. It has 75 hours on it. I changed the oil, anti freeze and filled the tank and put it away for the winter. I use 15 - 40 Diesal Castrol. Since I have changed the oil at 50 Hours, it seems it takes 15 or more seconds before the Oil Idiot Light goes out.

Should I be concerned or change the weight to 10 - 30 which is what it was from the factory? The dealer suggested 15 - 40. Thoughts?

My TZ25 has just over 100 hours. Even in the winter, the oil light goes off right after I start it. After 50 hours, I switched to Shell Rotella synthetic. BUT...even the year before with the non-synthetic oil, my oil light did not stay on. Western NY temps. 10 degrees on occasion...

I doubt that the difference in the oil is causing this situation. You should be fine with 15W40 where you live. Maybe the pressure switch is sticking a little. You can double check things by screwing a maual gauge into the port where the pressure switch is now. Start the engine and see how quick the pressure comes up. I suspect that it will pop right up and everything is OK.

I would check the pressure for sure to make sure you have no problems.

If your 25DA is like most of the smaller NH tractors (and the old Fords, which used essentially the same engines), there is a VERY small tube that runs from the block up to the head for oil supply. On the other side of the head, there is the pressure sensor. With my old Ford 1720 it use to take something close to 10 seconds for the pressure light to go out in the winter with the tractor stored outdoors in a shabby shed. Two things I did to improve the situation were to start using Rotella Synthetic 5w-40 and I drilled the hole in the fitting at the end of the tube out so it was slightly larger. From the factory, it wasn't much bigger than the head of a pin.

It seems unanamous that Shell Rotella Synthetic is the preferred choice. I have always used Castrol but that is because of my sport cars, preferred choice. I did start it this past week end and it took 7 seconds to go out. Once warmed it goes out immediately. So.. I am going to try 5 X 40 or if I can find 10 X 30 for Diesel, I am also going to borrow an oil gauge from my mechanic to see the pressure as suggested.

Thanks for all the information and replies!

do the mechanical gauge check before you go replacing the oil.. I'd be leary of using a 5w oil in a tractor unless the manual ( warranty ) said it was ok..

Many times people will 'T' a mechanical gauge in with a sender to see what psi the sender is going off at.. etc.
