Was mowing today... about 2hrs into it, I stopped for a bathroom break. I turned the key off, but the tractor would not stop running. I could take the key out and everything... still kept running. When the key was turned to off, it killed power to the accessory outlet, like it should, but tractor kept running.

I have disconnected the seat switch, with a jumper wire, so I pulled the jumper wire out, and tractor died. I drove it for the rest of the day doing this.

After I was done, I washed the tractor off. When I was done, I connected the jumper wire back up, and parked the tractor in the shop. I turned the key to off, and the tractor died. Whatever was causing it got washed away. LOL

Anyone have any ideas what could have caused this?

You must have been mowing some of that wire grass? :)

That is a strange one. It would seem like something was making a connection on the wires behind the ignition switch. It makes sense that pulling the seat switch jumper killed it.

Dave.

Not every electrical function is controlled directly by the ignition switch. There are many realys involved that can have contacts that stick. The fuel cutoff solenoid is powered from a relay instead of directly from the ignition switch. Either a relay stuck or the solenoid itself got bound up and didn't deenergize properly. Since the seat switch worked, it points at the operator safety module as being the culprit. As long as it works, don't worry about it, but be prepared for it to happen again as these things rarely heal themselves permanently. The best thing to do as a backup procedure is to find out which fuse powers the cutoff solenoid. In my tractor, that's fuse #2. If the problem is electrical instead of the solenoid sticking, fuse #2 will kill the tractor when pulled.

man, I hope I'm not starting to have problems with it... it's only two years old with 70hrs on it.

Wanted to update everyone on this problem I was having... I finally figured out what was causing my tractor to keep running. It was my xm radio plugged into the power outlet underneath the seat. I don't know why it is causing this problem, but pulling out the power adapter from it, solved the problem. LOL
