Wow. Quite the discussion over site ettiqute
FWIW, my own two cents:
As someone who's still very new to the whole tractor ownership game, the reason I keep coming back here is because it IS an active site, where people still answer the same questions. Even questions that have been addressed years ago. I'll never be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I like to believe I'm not the butterknife, either. I know to start off with a search for whatever question I might have. That's how I ended up on this post (I'm approaching the 50-hour service point, and wanted to get a head's-up on what I should be considering). But sometimes, even multiple searches don't lead you to what you're looking for specifically. The info you need probably IS on the site. Somewhere. But unless you pick the right keywords, it can give you a bit of a run-around.
Another reason for asking the same question is just part of human nature. If it's a topic you are not all that comfortable with, asking the question again just for reassurance ("You mean like this, right?") is pretty typical. Is for me, anyway. Before I start turning wrenches on a $14K+ machine, I like to have the warm-and-fuzzy feeling of someone with tons more experience giving me a thumb's up. If the answer I need is obvious from an old post that I can find, then great. If not, I shoot out the question here.
I also understand how frustrating it can be going over the same question over and over to someone who has been-there-done-that. In my line of work (and, I imagine, most other lines of work), there are times when you go over the same topic again and again. And no matter how well you think it has been covered, how much you think the answers are painfully obvious, you still hear the same questions.
But the beauty of this site is the fact that there are enough people willing to keep sharing their knowledge and experiences. Over and over, when necessary.
