Kubota BX2200D,
Hi All,

Is it normal for UDT to darken within 100hrs I changed the fluid approximately 100hrs ago and I have notice it is getting darker. Not a lot but noticeable.
Anyone know if this is normal?

It might get a little greener or grayer, but should still appear very clear. If it gets hazy or cloudy then I might worry.

Thanks s219. The history of the tractor is I bought it in 2011 with 1170hrs on it. I bought it cheap because I could see from the paint on the bolts the original hyd. oil change had not been done. I changed it ran a new filter for a few hours then changed it again to flush it out. This is the third batch of oil since I bought it. It is still fairly clear but has dark tint when you get a cup full.

The oil should stay almost as clear as it is when it was put in.

It sounds like you did the right thing as far a maintenance goes...maybe even the "excellent" thing.

Perhaps the FEL (if so equipped) and other interior reservoirs are not entirely flushed of old fluid. Was the fluid fairly dark when it was first changed at 1100+ hours?

Anyway, you have done all you can do so just keep up the maintenance schedule and don't fret too much.

Some folks have had the best results using Kubota SUDT in the BX. Not related to the darkening problem unless a UDT equivalent is being used is an off-brand rather than Kubota UDT. I had a problem using Tractor Supply UDT that cleared up when Kubota oil was used.

gwdixon, Yes the fluid was very dark. Even looked dark on the dip stick. I did flush it and fill it with Champion UDT. That may be the cause. I will fill it with Kubota SUDT2. I did not realize other brands of UDT would have a negative effect.

Thanks,

This thread made me realize that the term "UDT" when used in reference to a 'Kubota' tractor is usually interpreted by Kubota owners as pertaining to Kubota brand hydro transmission fluid. Won't be making that mistake again.

I made the same assumption, that it was Kubota brand UDT. I'd not worry if the hydraulic functions are performing well and the HST squeal isn't to loud but when changed again I'd use Kubota SUDT/SUDT2 only.:2cents:
