Uh-oh...Seeding alfalfa after using 2,4-D?

No I haven't sprayed first, I usually just disk several times through August. It is generally so hot and dry that disking kills most of the vegetation.

You would probably be alright, but before I spent the $$ on the seed, I would make a call or two to your local Agriculture office or seed /fertilizer supplier, just to sleep better.

There's certainly residual effect from 2,4-D. There's no guarantee of the extact time, but the label suggestion should almost always be safe. I wouldn't push it much faster.
