uh oh, steering broke. s-370 beaver

I was driving my little tractor up the road to a yardsale the other day and when I was turning into the driveway, the "rod" coming out of the steering box twisted off. I was turning it on pavement, though. Does anybody happen to have a spare? I priced one at a place uptown for, and your not gonna believe it, $1010.53!!! I cried. That is actually MORE than what I paid for the TRACTOR AND 7 PIECES OF EQUIPMENT!

My 2nd cousin has a beaver exactly like mine, but he doesn't want to sell his steering box off of it though. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What about disassembling the steering box and having the shaft welded back together? You would be surprised what a skilled welder can do for you. You may have to have the shaft turned on a lathe after welding, but it will still be a whole lot cheaper than the $1000+ you were quoted.

Also, I'm sure that Bill at Valley Power Products will be able to do much better than the price you have meantioned.

Look at some of these other threads. You will find lens12 and vppinc. They are both vendors who can help you with new or possibly used parts. They are also on the yahoo mitsubishi/satoh club site. A good place to visit. These guys have parts, manuals etc. Good luck
