Has anyone tried one of these newer ultra thin LED lights? I see that they came out around 2014. I have a soffit that I recently build around some ductwork in the basement. I want to put recessed lights in it but there is not enough room for a conventional can light housing. This would work perfect. Thinking about possibly using this style in the whole basement...eliminates need to locate cans first. Makes it easier when hanging the drywall. Run wiring, hang drywall, then just drill a 6" round hole attach wiring and pop it up in.

Juno is a good name- I have their led can lights and they work fine. I'm concerned they/you don't recommend some type of electrical box- either in the fixture or a part of the structure. Beyond that the led part of the fixtures are very small. It has been the AC/DC transformer that eats up space and makes the heat- that is where a lot of the advancement has come.

Then again maybe these use a remote transformer and the wiring between the lights is low voltage DC possibly negating the need for electrical boxes.

If you do, may I suggest you buy a decent amount extra of them to replace what you install... while LEDs are supposed to last a long time, I've got doubts based on some I've seen, and it would suck to not be able to find a replacement in a few years.

You might want to check out Costco if you are a member. Just saw some replacement LED fixtures designed to go into cans. 4 packs. Much cheaper the Junos. Feit is brand. I have the shop light fixtures and love them. Here is a link and you can see your options of lumen output and color.

I think these are them-
Overview

They do use a remote transformer negating the need for an electrical box. They seem like a great solution for the soffit area. The transformer will be the higher cost item. I would stick with Juno, Lithonia or another common brand given the lights and transformers aren't typically interchangeable. As stated above, it would suck to have a failure of one part and need to replace everything because you purchased a no name.

I installed similar type lights during a bathroom/laundry room remodel-very happy with them-did buy a couple extra just in case-2 years- no issues

I bought a "disk" light that wires to 120V - it has it's own transformer and everything fits in a 4" J-box - looks like a can light. I'm pleased with it. Not sure of the brand, it's been a while.
