Underground wire and cable question

How deep are they supposed to be buried? I was tearing up my front yard to reseed when I pulled up the repair from the last time I pulled up and ripped my telephone cable. Last time, I set my subsoiler to about two feet. This time, I was only going about a foot when I found the cable (again). I have half the mind to dig the trench myself so I don't go digging up the cable again.

I have thought between 12-18" for buried cable.

Why so deep to reseed?
How did you get (or what did you use) down to 2' deep? That must have taken a good sized piece of equipment. (Ah-ha! The name 63DH8 might be the clue /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

Just to raise a 2' point out of the ground would take some tall tires, I would think.

The reason I went so deep was to promote drainage. I've been driving on my front yard, just in front of the house for the past ten or so years. Where I drove is hard packed and was flooding. Last winter, it got to the point where I had to put the truck in four wheel drive just to get onto the driveway.

Well, since my brother and I have gone a few rounds with the local cable company. They claim only to have to be three inches deep here for cable. Still when you hit the cable with a stick edger (you know the weedeater with a metal blade to edge concrete and bedlines) and you cut the cable in three places it wasnt even an inch.....
