JD 4115
I originally ordered a 4110 and I was very surprised when two weeks after placing the order that no one could tell me the status of my machine--neither the dealer nor big JD. I really needed a tractor, so I decided to upgrade to the 4115 which my dealer had in stock. Everything arrived yesterday except the 60" MMM. The dealer doesn't have a clue when the MMM will arrive but he generously loaned me a 72" 3-point mower to use while I'm waiting for the MMM. So far so good.

Unfortunatly, I had some problems with the tractor the first day it was delivered.

After operating the tractor for about an hour I noticed continual (1-2 minutes) whitish-blue smoke coming from the exhaust. I shut down the machine and called the dealer and their service guy told me to "check the oil" and to "keep an eye on the exhaust." When I went to restart the tractor, I counldn't get it started. After about three hours of trouble-shooting I discovered that I appear to have a short in the part of the wiring harness that tells the tractor that the brake is depressed. By jiggling one of the wires I was able to get the tractor running again.

I put about six more hours on the machine this weekend without further incident.

After spending nearly $20000 on a machine is it unreasonable to expect that it should operate correctly the first day? Starting to wonder if I should have went orange . . .

For those interested, here are the specs and final prices (not including tax). The $1200 discount is applied to these numbers:
4115 with/R4s--$13427
410 FEL--$1899
60" MMM--$1749
60" Landpride BB--$575

Bertilak,

A good JD dealer should be able to give you some idea when your 4115 should be rolling off the production line as well as general date for delivery. Likewise, a good dealer should have gone through pre-delivery operational runs and tests at the dealership to ensure everything was operating up to par. Unfortunately and regrettably, it sounds like your dealer may have fallen short in both these areas.

The 4115's are good machines and you'll likely enjoy yours in time...it's unfortunate you had less than memorable experiences with the dealer.

I wish you well with your 4115. I have owned JD products (mainly larger agricultural, but have two 4000 series) for many years and have a terrific dealer.

I have learned that you never purchase any new product in it's first year of production. I see so many rushing out to by the "10" series. Just like first years of new or significantly changed pick-ups or cars - sit out 'till the second year.

I too agree with this advice. Unfortunately, I DID buy a 4710 recently and did so because big JD is phasing out production on all the 4700 series tractors. Actually, there were none (with HST) on the lots of the five dealers I went to and none of the five were able to get me a 4700 with HST from any of their contacts. So, I bought the 4710 and so far no problems.

I ordered the 4115 also. I put the order on April 26th (front blade, fel, rototiller and 60" MMM). Two weel ago everthing was in except the MMM very disappointing to say the least. I called the dealer and they looked up the status of the MMM. I was told it wasn't invoiced yet (means ready to ship out of the JD plant). Seven to 10 day later the dealer would received the MMM, one or two days to check out the little mean green machine and guess what? tomorrow I will take delivery (I can't wait).

I would call your dealer and they should be able to check on the status of the MMM. I think the way the economy is JD is sort of building as fast as they can once the order is in but I believe JD did not expect people who bought the 4115 to buy a MMM. My dealer also checked other people who ordered the 60" MMM and the the delivery was about the same. I'll let you know how the little green machine runs. (I can't wait).
