Hello. As the title says, I am joining the group from unincorporated Platte County, MO. Actually almost in Parkville, MO but just outside the lines on 4.5 acres of hilly heaven. My wife and I bought our property here after spending 5 years on a small lake, Houston Lake, MO. The lake house was fun for our time, but we were ready for some privacy and land. With our transition has come the need manage our much larger lot. It's a half wooded, half green grass hilly plat. Our home is an earth contact with a passive solar setup. We get as much of our heat as we can in the winter by burning timber found here. We have an old wood barn with a dirt floor, built along the hill, leaving it much shorter in the rear of the building. But, it affords me some cover for our toys. We have an old Harley Davidson golf cart and a slew of mopeds, scooters, bicycles and even a motorcycle. We have 94' Chevy 1500 standard cab 2WD for the home improvement store runs. My brother gifted us his Snapper lawn tractor when we moved in. It is every bit a big boy. It's got a 60" deck and is larger in body than our recently acquired Massey Ferguson GC1720 TLB. Which brings me to that. We just got the Massey after the first of the year. It has been completely mucky and cold out since it delivered, so short of a few loads of wood shuffled around, it is just sitting there. This has got the gears going in my mind as to all the potential projects we can use the tractor for. That is, after all, the official reason for getting the machine. I hope to use this site to gather knowledge and opinions from the many fine users and their expansive array of experience. I will always offer up my thoughts in return, hopefully to the benefit of others. It's a pleasure to meet you Tractorbynet.com friends!

Welcome to TBN Missourian. I live in unincorporated Harrison county North of you.

This is a good site to get ideas about how to utilize your tractor as well as improve it.

Post some pics of your tractor and your landscape when you can. Everyone likes pics.

Welcome to TBN; lots of very knowledgeable members here, they sure have helped me. I lived in north KCMO for a short time before returning "home" in the Bootheel.

Thanks for the pics wake.....

You'll be surprised what all a SCUT can do, if you have never owned one before. Check out the "Missouri Roll Call" for a good forum to view.

Cheers,
Mike

P.S. I love those Platte Cnty Hills......BTW....How much HP does that GC1720 have? Your Box Blade might be too big for you tractor.

Interesting you mentioned the blade... It's a 60" and the machine is 25HP, I was iffy on if I should have got a 4' blade... The dealer will swap it for me if I like, as I have not used it. I wanted to get some opinions on it. I live in those Platte County hills, so part of me wondered if it would be good as a "safety" as it is wider and could be set low or dropped down if I felt like I was in a pinch... Regardless I plan on getting spacers for the wheels. What say you?

I use a 5ft on my JD2210. Very similar sized tractor.

Wake.....

I never needed spacers on the three Kubotas that I have owned.....not that hilly at my place. There are lots of discussions on TBN about their use and where to buy them. Even with full chains on, I've never needed spacers for chain clearance.

As to the Box Blade, my Kubotas (B2620 & B2650) are 26 HP and my Box Blade is 54 inch with only four tines. This combination has worked fine for me for the chores that I've done so far. On one job, I used a helper (275 lbs) to ride the Blade to add more weight. Most TBNers say that weight is your friend using this tool......assuming that the tractor has enough umph to pull it.

Good luck on your new venture.

Mike
