Just found out that my rear tires are filled. (sorry Joel!)
I don't THINK I need them as I always have my box blade or super renovater hooked up in back. I do finish grading and install yards. Do a fair amount of FEL work, but small jobs, not hauling stone around for days. No mowing, so no sides of hills.
I don't THINK I need that extra balast? Will I be sorry? Wrestiling those monsters off the tractor and onto my truck was a nightmare. ALso wonder what happens if I get a puncture in the field?
Also concerned about the corrosion down the road.
Tractor is a 2001 that I bought last year (why i didn't know they were filled)
So what do you think about going back to air only? Cost? Any recouped by the dealer keeping the fluid? (or maybe it's dirty?)
Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

If they are loaded with Calcium Cloride, you'll need enough storage to hold it. Then when it is all out you'd want to break down the tire/wheel and give everything a good washing, and painting if necessary. Depending on the amount of liquid you'd have to buy several 55 gallon drums.
I imagine you could sell it by advertising on the net. Somebody would jump at the chance to buy for less than the dealers charge. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Now will you be sorry, I doubt it. Mine aren't loaded, and I've got plenty of steep slopes to operate on. After rolling my rig, I put a second set of wheels on the back. I feel better now about working on side hills. A bonus was the increase in traction, I haven't had to use 4wd since, and have only stepped on the differential lock when pulling a 16 inch moldboard plow that was dragging up big chunks of shale or tree roots.

Sounds like you are the perfect person to _have_ fluid in your tires, and would want it! Loader work, pulling blades full of stuff....

What harm is it causing you, that you want to get rid of it?

Keep it.

As noted, always have a box on back when doing loader work.
Why would pulling a box blade be affected at ALL by filled tires? If anything I'm wondering how much effect on my "performance" by the extra 1000lbs of weight. 700 or 800lbs FEL, 650lb box blade, 1000lbs filled tires (guessing, anyone know). That's close enough to the weight of the tractor alone in extras. Only a 33hp NH.

As noted: corrosion of the rims, what do you do if you get a puncture in the field?, have to have a service call as I sure as heck can't get it onto the truck (without ramps, etc)

Keep it.

Don't keep what I don't want /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

MLB,

I can't speak for your tractor but my boxblade work was improved by filling my tires. The additional weight gave me much less slippage at the rear wheels when pulling a load. If corrosion is your biggest concern you should check and see what type of fill was used. Many dealers have gotten away from calcium chloride and are using less corrosive fills.

Actually the weight is my biggest concern. I tow this when I use it and 1000lbs off would be easier on the truck, the trailer, etc
Not to mention the need for a on site service call instead of taking it off and throwing it in the truck.
MOSTLY it's wondering how all that weight is affecting my little NH TC33D. As shown above with implements and loaded tires (and my 240) I'm almost at the tractor weight with stuff hung off it. Can't help motor life, brake/tire wear, performance, fuel usage, etc

MLB,

One thing that came to mind was reading reports previously where tires with calcium cloride solution leaked and killed grass deader than roundup does. This might be a liability problem for you worst case if you got a bad leak, or a leak you did not notice right away.

Now the tires could be filled with something else, even rimguard [beat sugar juice] which is supposed to be more environmentally friendly from what I understand...or windshield washer fluid...or even plain water if you live in the South where it does not freeze. Forgot to look and see your location... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Slamfire,

Have you ever posted a larger picture of your tractor with the duals on? Would like to see one or two if you could point me at them, or if you could post a couple in the photos forum /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

As you are working on yards, I would say that you are right, you probably don't need it and the lighter weight you have, the less damage you will be doing to the yards. As one dealer once said when it leaks, and it will leak, you will probably have a problem. Rust etc for it, and the damage to the ground and all if its while you are using it. The only reason to load the tires is if you don't have enough traction, without it, or need it on side hills. And it sounds like you probably would have enough weight with all the fel and blade etc. And yes the more it all weighs, the harder it has to work, don't mean much in a short while, but over a lot of hours, I believe it will.

Sounds like it may be easier to trade them for unloaded tires.
Someone with unloaded tires that wants loaded tires.

Guess you could call that 'unloading' your tires as well.
