I saw a brief story on last Sunday's local TV news and was very amused ..... also surprised to hear the same event was held for the second time - the first a few years ago! Seems to be a local ag machinery dealer expo.

Best way to describe it? I would say  Agricultural Chess. Couldn't quite believe my eyes!

A couple of pics.
Apologies in advance for the low quality - had to scroll back the TV to take them, and a second look to ensure I wasn't seeing things!

Here's a YouTube link we found as well ..... not quite rivetting, more like a sort of picture-board story.
Chess pieces are substituted by tractors in Spain - YouTube

What strange or unusual job have you seen with a tractor being used?

this isn't all that strange but I just used my tractor as a movable tree to pull the bent bumper on the front of my truck, thanks to hitting an adult black bear at over 50mph. Tractor and portable Warn winch worked great.

Looks like they are planting pallets in fields.

TBS

Yes, albeit huge ones!
We were also speculating on how one chess piece removes another from the board

Nevertheless, a good idea for some publicity for farming in general, and farm equipment in particular, I reckon.

have you ever seen a tractor dance/ballet? Where all the tractors drive in a synchronized display?
I'll look it up on youtube

I have. It was a very nice show called Farmall Promenade. Here is a 4 minute YouTube video.

Do you have bears around Washington? I thought they were only in the N.C. mountains.

yes, we have black bear in the area, once was told they came out of the East along the coastal area down from the Dismal Swamp.
One bent my steel birdfeeder stand like a pretzel. And that was the last time I put out discount peanut butter treats for the birds.

I believe there are bears from here going North up through New England. Going South I just don't know.

black bear on a black night on an unlit country road. Invitation for trouble. What a noise that made, up against a pretty traditional Ram chrome bumper supported by two
big frame ends. Thankfully stayed low enough to not trip my airbags. The next morning I saw I didn't have enough clearance and was messing up the edge of my
new tires. I set the brakes on both truck and tractor and just used the tractor as an immovable object. Didn't take all that much pull; the winch is only rated at 1000 pounds and it wasn't even beginning to slow down; though I went very, very slowly. Was very wary of breaking headlight, which amazingly survived.
Wasn't sure where the line was between far enough and too far. Bumper would spring back a bit after tension taken off; third pull was the charm. I have zero
experience in this versus common sense so I was trying to go very slowly and like a doctor do no harm.

I was quite pleased with my tractor after this and gave it a powerwashing today in thanks. Had gotten pretty dirty running that rototiller.

I have one other...and it's a doozy. I helped lift an elderly neighboring farmer's disc harrow off the back of his tractor, where it had climbed when one of
his hitch balls broke. And he was drunk as a skunk. It's dark out, thankfully I have extra lights on my Kubota and we, meaning my other very sane professional fireman/EMT neighbor who understands rescue operations, and I had been a volunteer fireman for many years, and we struggled to get the heavy disc harrow off safely since it was laying on his right rear tire and we knew we could slice that tire easily. And my Kubota's lifting power was pretty inadequate to the task. But with a combination of lift and pull we got it down alongside the tractor. It had missed the guys head by less than one foot, came up against the back of his seat, the right side sheetmetal and tire. Drunks and babes...
Thankfully it was only a tractor rescue, not a people rescue.
