Out cleaning up a tree I downed, went to move a limb a little to line it up for some trimming. Started raising it up with the fel and the hose broke. We are suppose to use oil for cleaning our tractors, aren't we??.
Well, this means I either need a new line or a repair to the one that broke. The brake is real close to where it plugs into the tractor, so if it can be repaired, I would only lose about 6 inchs of hose.
So which is it, are the hoses repairable with some after market hardware, or do I have to replace the whole hydraulic line?

Mike, if you're sure the hose is long enough, the places that make up the hydraulic hoses can put a new end on it, but first I'd want to know what caused it to break. Was it in a bind, pinched, or something like that that broke it, or did it just blow out? In other words, if it was a weakened hose, I'd definitely want to replace the whole thing with a new one myself, and I'd probably replace the whole thing anyway, although they can be repaired.

Near as I can tell, it was a blow out. Haven't seen any ballooning or leaking in the area, maybe it had a small cut. But the tractor is a little cleaner....

Mike, I busted a hose on my loader and got a new one from my New Holland dealer. They make hoses right there in the parts department and I suspect your dealer makes them too since this type of failure is really common. I'd suggest replacing the hose and maybe even go to a better grade of hose than the OEM one that came with your tractor. My 18" hose with new fittings on each end was only $9. That's a bargain in my book. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Depending on dealer/supplier markup, a good 2-wire 4000 psi hydraulic hose will cost 30 to 50 cents per inch. Then add in the cost of the fittings.
