( Unless Chloe's condition can be fixed, I think you should put her down. She may not be in pain. However, she is almost certainly suffering from a constant gnawing hunger. A living body has an almost indefatigable will to live and can be sustained for quite a long time in an absolutely miserable condition. )

I have to agree with this. My vet says about 5% of pups with mega can overcome the condition. It doesn't look like Chloe is in that group. I think it's time to release her.

It is easy to stand from the outside looking into the situation and come to one conclusion or another based on the limited information we have and our past experiences. I have found that in a situation like this, there is often more of the story than I know.

Junkman, be encouraged. I've had to make the decision to put down one of my dogs in years past, and I know that it is one of the hardest decisions a man has to make. Because of the emotional attachement and all you've been through with her, you will hold out hope even when others say there is no hope left. My hope is that Chloe will be with you for years to come and live a wonderful life, but if not, love her for all she's worth while she's with you. That's about all anyone could ask.

in is now 2 in the afternoon and she is sleeping in my arms. This is the second of 4 meals that she will eat today. After her rest, she will lie in the living room basking in the sun. Not as bad a life as some healthy dogs have. She may be hungry between her small meals, but her life is very good in all other respects. She goes outside and runs around the house chasing the Weimeraner and has no shortage of energy. As long as her health doesn't suffer, I am willing to devote the time that it will take to keep her going. One thing is for certain, she will never be a overweight dog. Thanks to everyone for their postings and PM's of encouragement.

Well, there's no doubting your devotion to Chloe. Few dogs can boast of that!

Have you done any on-line research into Mega? There's a fair amount of information available that may help Chloe.

Best wishes for the two of you.
