Took my truck to Ford thursday for passanger mirror replacement and asked them to check the surging problem. A phone call later reveiled several things we dicsussed in the earlier thread. They said they were ordering me a new turbo and should be in tomorrow. Apparently the silenoid for the turbo veins stuck wide open and hung there damaging the impeller. That was the high boost reading on my uphill climb. They replaced the whole turbo with a new design under warranty, no questions asked. Good Ford dealer. The same mech worked on it this time as last. I talked to him and he hinted and asked if I had run a chip, I answered NO because he recommended not. That was that and he said the sticking silenoid was a problem he has seen before.
I did buy some cetane booster and now my 80k stroke has a new turbo. Thank God for leading me to the purchase of that truck with a warranty for who knows how much the bill would have been otherwise.
Hopefully with my new knowledge of turbo diesels I can help my truck live a little longer. Later Robbie
