Chris,
I am truly sorry for the bad experience you had with your machine. In a way, each and every time I here about problems with new machines, I cringe, because of all the cheerleading I have done regarding my machine. I really do not know why Power Trac does the things they do regarding machines that are not correct right from the get-go.

Just plain strange.
I looked very seriously at PT a couple of years ago. I read everything that MR said, along with many others on this group.
I almost bought one then. I also looked at Ventrac. For similar money, I could get something that had similar capabilities to a 422, at least for what I needed to do 95% of the time. I've got a bucket and a blade, plus a mower deck. The Ventrac can climb my hills without the slightest pause for thought and without shredding my lawn. Most of the time this is all I need, and it was great being able to swap the bucket back on in seconds for the blade last week to do road repairs when our road washed out.
At the same time, I'd love to have a few of the neat attachments I can put on a 422.
Yes, every once in a while I wish I had a pair of forks, even a mini-hoe, and a grapple would have a tidy little project waiting for it that may never get done otherwise. On the other hand, while I can do a lot of neat things with mathematics or to a piece of wood, gas engines are not my skill, nor is welding, nor hydraulic plumbing. So I chose not to buy a PT and risk having problems like Chris did. Instead, when I need to dig a trench, I've got a pick and shovel. And when my machine needs a repair that I cannot handle, I've got a dealer near here to do the work.
My point is, know your limitations. If you like welding and doing your own engine work, etc., then I'd recommend a PT in a heart beat.
John
