WOZ,
I purchased a GT2550 in March of '05. Personally it is a very well built machine. I bought mine from a dealer and have had no issues with it, and I have about 45 hours of mowing on it. My lawn mainly consists of a 12% grade and I am a big guy and it has no problems going up the slope and cutting thick grass. Also, there is no flex in the frame when I stand on the footboards. So, would I recommend the GT2550 to anyone, I would say yes.
A few things that you may want to research.... on the '05 there was an issue of the headlight wiring getting to close to the muffler and melting the wire insulation. This has been changed in the new design for '06. Secondly, I know that reading here on this board, a few people had problems with the Kohler Courage engine which was on the 1000 series in '05, and is now on the 2550's for '06.
