Upflush toilet

I'm in the process of framing a 5X6 bathroom in our new basement, as part of finishing off the entire space. We didn't plan on having a bathroom down there originally, but there is water close by and the main waste line (3 inch PVC) is overhead. Can anyone describe their experiences with the toilets such as Saniflush which use a motorized grinder and pump to move waste up to a drainpipe? I'm also considering adding a shower stall and sink to the same area, and their drains would be routed to the toilet. Thanks for any information you can provide.

I don't think my set up is the same as a Saniflush, but I have a basement bath that is plumbed to a sump crock in the basement floor with a grinder in it that pumps the "stuff" up to the sewage line exiting the house and out to the septic tank. It's worked for two years without a hitch, but it sure was a bear cuttin' up all that concrete to put the darn thing in. Here's a link with some construction pics in it. Basement bath pics

Mine is the type you put in the floor before you put concrete in.

They set it into the floor and ran the pipe before everything else. It's 25 gallon and is made by Liberty Pumps

The last one has the flapper installed to keep the water from coming back into the pump house. It's just like a sump pump and it's fairly quiet.

My only suggestion which isn't scientific is to have the basement utilites for #1 only and have the #2 stuff done elsewhere.

We have the same type, sump in basement floor with a grinder pump, the toilet is garden variety normal. About 3 years after we moved in, the pump failed, overflowed, not a pretty sight. Replaced the pump myself and hope I don't have to go through that again!

i looked into this issue a couple of years ago and found that Zoeller makes a self contained tank/pumping unit. A standard toilet sits on top of the tank, which is only about 6" tall. This would require you to build your bathrrom floor over the tank on 2 X 8s, but you wouldn't have to dig a hole in the concrete. I think the max lift fo rth epump was about 12'. Do a search on Zoeller pumps, and I think you'll find some info and drawings for it.
