I have an almost new 5420 with dual mid SVCs. The 5425 series that will be out in March are available with a triple mid SVC. I want to put one of these on my 5420.

Yes, I know I can get a diverter valve or independent third SVC that is plumbed into the power beyond. I’ve even narrowed the search to WR Long who provides a complete kit with hoses, joystick button, etc. That may be what I have to do in the end, but I want to explore the factory option first.

I’ve seen a few pictures of the 5425 with the triple mid SVC installed. While they now use a different rear SVC, it looks like the same OEM brand (Sauer Danfoss) for the mid SVC. The plumbing looks identical with exception of the lower steel hoses which have to be different because the triple mid SVC hangs a bit lower due to the third set of couplers.

If the only difference from a hydraulic plumbing perspective is the SVC unit itself and two lower hoses, I’m going to try and get my dealer to trade it out. I’ll buy the joystick handle with the buttons and wire it myself. I know most folks would just go with an aftermarket diverter valve, but I like the looks of the triple SVC and want it as stock as I can get it.

The 5025 series may be too new for there to be anyone familiar with the triple mid SVC plumbing to comment. At this point, there are only a handful of folks who would know both the old and new layouts, but I thought it worth asking.

Thanks

I work for Sauer (engineer) and make those valves which you speak of. I do not claim to know all of the details about the old vs new plumbing. However, I can tell you that all the work port locations and the function of spools II and III are the same as the older dual and triple models. That being said, I believe that you could add the triple mid EH in place of your current dual using spools II and III. You could plug the spool I work ports until you decided to get a 4n1 (or whatever).
Deere sells a kit for converting from a 2 to 3 spool EH.
LVB25696 KIT
It contains the SCV, lines and fittings, and joystick. I'm not sure if the kit is available yet, but it is on jdparts.

Russell,

Thanks for pointing me to the JDParts page. I found lots of info on the Dual and Triple Mid SVC. However, I couldn't find the LVB25696 kit you refered to. The parts search said that was an invalid part number and I'm not sure how to search for the upgrade kit as you must have done. Any more help you can give me?

Thanks.

Well heck, I just didn't look hard enough. I found it.

Now I just have to make sure I can use this kit with the 5420. Looks like it just may be possible.

Thanks again, Russell.

Russell,

The upgrade kit isn't yet available, but I did check the price on the triple mid SVC that comes on the 5425. It retails for over $1500 which is a bit more than I was hoping for. Do you know if that valve can be purchased directly from Sauer at a discounted price? I can handle the hydraulic plumbing and electrical wiring myself.

Thanks.

We are shipping the valves to Augusta, but I guess most of them are going on tractors only right now.

Since it is an OEM product, it is not available outside of the Deere distribution network unfortuately. The majority of our valves are OEM products. We do make a non-EH 3-spool for the 5020 series. It would require another pull cable and lever, but I know Deere has a kit for that. At $1500, Deere is making GOOD money. I'll see if there is another way, but I am not currently aware of any.

Well, even if I was willing to pay the $1500, I don't think I could get one anytime soon. With a markup like that, there are too many good valves on the market to ignore. Deere is pricing themselves out of it on this one.

I think I’ll go to go with the kit from W.R. Long (Hyvair). I'm going to use a different control grip, but that's mainly personal preference. The folks from W.R. Long seem to be good to work with.

Thanks again Russell
