I bought the BX25 a few years ago and it was a nice little tractor, two years ago I traded it in for the B3200 with BH. Whelp, now I am thinking I would like the L4240 with BH. I really don't need it, it's more of a want as I would like to get back to an independant PTO and the HST Plus looks handy. The lift capacity on the Loader and 3PH is so much better and the digging force is awesome also. I can't see needing a bigger Grand L as the only diference is the horse power once you get to the 4240. God I hope I don't want the M series in a couple years. :)

I say go for it. I did the same, went from a JD 955 to a Kioti CK30 and then traded to a Kioti DK45. I only have 3 acres and don't really need the bigger tractor, but I don't regret it for a minute.

Good luck with the wife on that one!The L4240 is a very nice tractor and will do all most people will ever need.I use mine year round.

I agree with Ken, go for it and the 4240 really is enough tractor for most applications, we have an M because we actually need it and I doubt you will ever be willing to give up the HST+ once you get use to it.

Agreed- I went from a John Deere 4700 to the 4240 and was worried (needlessly) about dropping a few horsepower. I haven't come close to maxing the 4240 out- moving large round bales- bush hogging baby trees in heavy brush, working my horse arena, spraying with a PTO sprayer and grading my driveway. It's EFFORTLESS!!!!!

Life is short, go for it. Just be sure to call it "our" tractor. :) I've always told my wife "our" first tractor is a "starter" so it's getting close to upgrading time on "our" JD 4300.

I took a different route. After getting her unafraid of driving it and showing her how easy it was to mow with my wife said the first tracor was "her's" and I'd just have to buy a bigger one. I said okay if that was what she really wanted. You've got to give them their way you know what I mean?

The HST is the berries and unless you do extensive ground engaging it is definitely the way to go. You do sacrifice some power and the tranny can be noisy and disconcerting at first, but you will get used to it with time.

I don't think the grand L suffers the same HST whine as the BX's are know for and I'm surprised that an MX does. The Grands have HST+ and are completely different. I have no HST noise at all on my Kioti.

The HST noise is somewhat exacerbated by the turbo noise, taken alone it isn't too bad, it is a total noise issue with the MX. The tractor is a great value if you don't need/want a cab. I have a lot of overhanging trees and a cab would not last long for my uses. The HST + seems to be superb, but it was not offered with the MX when I bought it, and I don't think it is with the current MX models either. My old Kubota had the GST and it was great at the time, but the HST is a major improvement. The MX 4700 is significantly quieter than the 5100, but for the difference in price plus the extendable 3 point hitch arms with CATI & II capabilities the 5100 was a better value for me.
