UPS lied to me and screwed up Christmas (long)

I know its no consolation Gary, but UPS hires tons of temp workers this time of year. I once had the opportunity to be working in a UPS facility ( piping project ... not handling ) during the holiday rush and the way they handle packages is quite distressing. They build a wall in the truck with the larger boxes leaving a slot in the top with a few foot space behind the boxes. If the package is small, it gets thrown through the hole into the void. Fragile, glass, electronics, it doesn't matter. Its getting through the load before the supervisor returns that matters.

Now you know why stuff is packed the way it is. Every try to unpack a kids toy...plastic wrap, wire ties, styrofoam, staples, tape, then you have to figure out how to get at the toy to start unpacking that !!!!

Well, I spoke with the UPS terminal manager today and he has located virtually every Panini maker withing 125 miles of here and offered to have whichever one I want delivered to me. Unfortunately, none are the brand/model I had, which is, of course, the only one I'm sure my daughter wanted. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I have to say it sure seems like UPS is really trying now and I'm not unappreciative of that fact. I think I'm going to just have to call my daughter, tell her the story and ask her what she wants me to do at this point. So much for the idea of surprising my little girl Christmas morning, huh? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

That's the part of this that still ticks me off. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Here I did absolutely everything right and I end up in this mess. The worst part is that I'm left with choosing among bad options. The good one has been taken from me.

Gary, I'm not sure which Brand your after but have you tried a Williams Sonoma ? If you dont have one locally they have mail order and internet sales. Were running on a pretty short time frame but another thing you can do is call a retail outlet, explain your situation and I am very certain they would put one in the mail pronto. They have always been great here on the customer service end. Dave

I was just reviewing what I've missed over the last few days, and I saw your response in the thread about "strange gifts". By the way, I don't think asking for an insulated hood is so strange. I once asked my daughter, who didn't have a lot of money at the time (of course, she still doesn't or I wouldn't have had to pay to have her transmission fixed! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Merry Christmas Dad! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif) for a specialty bookmark. She worked in a book store, and I knew that she could get one really cheap!

Anyway, I was just wondering how your attempts to get your daughter that "special" gift ended up? I know you finally reached the point that you didn't think you could get one, but what did you end up doing? UPS, Indianna jsut plain stinks. We have a boy living in Richmond. His other sends soemthing by UPS, he never gets it, or it is weeks late and a host of other problems.. She uses UP{S every day and ships a fair amount of CHrysler parts and paperwork out. Just Indianna seems to have major problems.
