Robert Whitehead was shot down and killed at the end of the WW2 near the village where I spent first half of my life. He was buried at the local cemetery but was exhumed by his family and his body was transported to the USA. Nevertheless his grave was maintained all those years till today. When I was a kid I always visited the cemetery anytime I walked around. The obelisk on his grave is a propeller blade from his P 38 Lightning with his name on it. There is also a memorial at the crash site on a hill above the village.
