Use Camels To Clear Cactus?

What type of cactus you got there? Here we've just got some that makes ovaled thin flaps.. County extension agent is the one that recomended liming to get rid of cactus. Florida is all limestone too.. yet.. lime is often needed as an amendment here..

We call it prickley pear.

If you break a pad off, it roots and makes a new plant.

It grows on poor soil and is very difficult to get rid of. It has thorns of varying length, including some that are extremely fine and short... boogers to get out when you get them in you... typically fester out.

I'm sure the county agent is far more of an authority that I on his part of the country. However here the time honored way of getting rid of cactus is to dig it up roots and all, or use herbicide. It can be weakened by a planned burn and herbicide works better then.
