used 12v batteries in a JD 4230

i accidnetallly left the keys on in this tractor and the batteries ran dry so we tried to recharge it but it just hummped and flicked on and off the two different chargers so i dont no wat to do only get new batteries or take them to a batterie shop. if u have an imput i would like to hear them

Are you sure that you have 12 volt batteries? From the factory, these tractors had two six volt batteries hooked in series to get twelve volts. I have seen some converted to 2 - 12 volts hooked in parrallel though. If these large batteries are completely discharged, it could take several hours of charging to get enough power to crank it over. Be sure you are using the correct voltage before charging. 12 volt batteries have 6 vent caps and 6 volts have 3. If the batteries are too old, they might not take a charge.

o ok my boss said there is 24v total and they did have three caps on each

When you drain a battery down completely they can be very slow to acept a charge initially. You will need to leave the charger on for several hours and monitor temps so you don't cook them. Charge with a moderate amperage unit at say 10 amps or less.

Also if the batteries are maintenance type, check electrolyte level prior to charging.

By your "3 caps each" description, you have 2) 6v batteries. If you do not have a 6v charger, you could charge at 12v by attaching the negative to chassis ground or negative terminal of the battery whose negative goes to ground, and the positive to the other battery whose negative would be attached to the other battery's positive post.

If you are still uncertain, I'd have someone knowledgeable with batteries help you out.
