Going to look at this trailer tomorrow and thought I'd put a feeler out there for some opinions.

The trailer is 24ft and has 3 (likely mobile home axles) underneath it. It looks to be pretty well built, but won't really know more until tomorrow. Don't know if it has brakes either. The previous owner used it to haul heavy truck parts.

I am looking to replace my 16ft car hauler with something longer. I just can't fit much on the 16ft'er as far as extra implements. My tractor is 1900lbs then there is the loader (est. 700lbs), backhoe 850lbs, plus additional implements around 500-1200lbs for a total of around (4650lbs). I know the trailer is heavier than I need but with the tractor & implements being fairly light, do you think this trailer would be an "acceptable" choice for a 4 door heavy duty half ton (HD1500)?

There is a pretty good chance I will be going with a larger tractor or skid steer in the future which is another reason I am considering the heavy trailer. At that time I would be looking to beef up the towing vehicle.

I haul the tractor a few times a month and don't travel much over an hour one way.

Just my $0.02, a goose on a 1/2 T is weird. Second thing is a tri-axle literally drags tires sideways in turns. Since the loads are not heavy ripping the tires off rims are less an issue than simply abrasion.

Tri-axles like smooth & straight.

Mobile home axles are not the greatest in design. They serve one purpose and outside of transporting and disposal (left behind) they are not built for longevity and work.

$.02

I've been called weird a few times, so it may be a good fit! Actually I had not thought about turns at all, so that is a good point.

I am not 100% sure that they are mobile home axles but will know for sure tomorrow. If they are and the rest of the trailer is in good shape, I wonder how hard ( and cost effective)it would be to replace the 3 axles with 2-6000lb ones.

The cost of the axles and a decent welder or fabricator. Shouldn't be more than $4 - 500, maybe? $600 tops?? Brakes / conversion kit? Maybe upwards of $1K with parts and labor....

Then a brake controller for the tow vehicle...

I tried zooming in on the pic of the axles, they may be mh axles, but if they are you can use that as a bargining chip to get the price down, If its a good price. I think there has been a few people on here that might of changed some hubs out from mh to regular trailer hubs, but not 100% sure of that. good luck.

The axles would make me run unless it was a steal. New axles with brakes, wheels, and tires are going to run you $1500 by the time its said and done.

Your truck would be the bare min I would use a GN on. Me personally would never own another GN. I dont feel they tow that much better to make me want to give up the bed and prevent using the trailer with other trucks or SUV's

Asking price on the trailer is $2500 obo. Not sure if that is a steal but seemed like a reasonable price range too me. Trailers around this area go for very sporadic prices at auctions. I already have a nice P3 Tekonsha controller, so could save a couple hundred there.

This is just my 2 cents, which dont mean much, that might be a little high due to the mh axles, thats just me. I been wrong before.

I have two (25' with no broken tail & 21' with the broken tail) that I gave $700 & $1000 for each but with the pintle hitch. Your prospect is a cut above either of our trailers. IF it is what you want/need do NOT get hung up over price. $1700 offer may buy the trailer depending on the market.

Both have triple 6,000# MH axles which are awesome with plenty high load rated fresh new like tires/wheels for about $40 each from MH set up people. Brake, bearings, etc parts are common items. Ours stays parked 99.99% of the time so they should last another 100 years.

Keep in mind before you load anything you are pulling 4,000 pounds so you need the brakes working to use with a PU. 1 ton would be about min to help insure the tail would not be wagging the dog but being a goose neck will help. The empty trailer I expect will be a load on the pick up rear axle so make sure the wheels are set so you can balance the load on the three axles.
