I have ran across a used 2004 Montana 3940 HST with 165 hours. This tractor is in very good condition but does not have a front end loader. Is $7500 a good price?? Seems very reasonable to me but I'm curious about other opinions.

It sounds about half the price of new or even less. Im sure there is plenty of life left

It sounds like an absolute steal. If I offered a trade of that price on that tractor, I'd likely really make a customer mad.

The hours are nothing.

Just look as closely at it as you can and ask questions about service history, etc. A complete 50 hour service should have been done but with those hours, not much else.

Do you have any indication why it is being sold?

It has been repossessed. It also includes a bush hog and finishing mower, not sure what brands. I have been told that when you crank the tractor up the PTO turns. I have not investigated yet so I am not sure if the PTO is actually engaged or if this is just due to the fluids being cold and causing a little bit of drag.

Sounds like they may just want what's owed on it then. It may be in your best interest to find the closest dealer to you and offer to pay them to look over the tractor for you if this option would be available. If this is something they aren't interested in doing, they may allow you to ask one of their technicians to do it for cash after hours.

Some people know when the repo man is coming and freely hand over what they can't afford to own, while others get a kick out of trying to destroy it before they lose it.

A few bucks spent before you sign on the line might be wasted money but it may be well spent on an evaluation from someone with experience with the brand. Keep in mind that you will get their best opinion with no guarantee.

That is a very good price for just the bare tractor but even better with a few implements.
