used 40D vs new 35D?

Hi folks...watching the posts for awhile and now am on the brink of buying my first tractor. Going to be removing snow on a hilly gravel drive here in upstate NY as well as doing routine loader/rotary cutter work.

Dealer has a used 40D w/ supersteer, 17LA loader w/ 72" bucket, and loaded rear industrial tires. Tractor quoted at $19,000 w/ 89 hours on it -sold new this past July and just returned this week by customer looking for a bigger rig. Dealer has also quoted a 72" Curtis blade for $2,250 (sounds high to me?).

Separately was quoted was quoted $19,500 for a new 35D w/o supersteer, 16LA loader w 72" bucket, industrial tires, and a 60" rotary cutter. $2,500 for 716C 72" rear mount snow blower.

Any feedback on the equipment and pricing of these deals would be greatly appreciated.

Are you in Buffalo :( you guys are getting pounded with snow, about 3FT and climbing.

The supersteer adds value (if you really could use it) and about $1-1.5k to the original price. Tractor & FEL compared the 89 Hours are barely even broken in. Compare the 4D package new to the 35D and see if the used one is worth it.

I'd go with the 40D since 89 hours is essentially weekend use over 6 months. The little extra weight and hp will come in handy. After all, you still have 18 months or 1911 hours left on the 40D warranty. Use the $500 difference to help buy the rotary cutter and snow blower and you will be set.

One plus of the 40D: in this model you steo up to a 4 cylinder engine. The 35D has a 3 cylinder.

The extra cylinder on the 40D is a benefit, but so is the extra power (if you will need it) for the long term.

Thanks for the input, fellas. I'll be taking delivery of a nearly new (89 hrs0 40D on Wednesday. Hoping that the snow holds off til then...we've had a dusting here compared to Buffalo, but i should soon be set to take on the winter with my 72" rear-mount snow thrower.

Congrats petegt!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Sounds like you got a winner there, I don't think you'll regret going with the 40. Let us know how that first drive goes when you get it home!

Petegt - Post the photos of the snow banks you will be throwing around. If anything it may be good insurance to make sure you don't get any snow
