I've been looking around for a low hour used 4100/4110 or even a good 755, with 60" MMM, FEL, for mowing/hogging about 3-4 acres, and some light landscaping/leveling work.

I think the 4110 would be about the right soize so I could do all mowing (even around the house/buildings...

Local dealer has taken a 2000 4200 4WD, HST, with FEL, 60"MMM, ballast box, 200 hours, one owner (74 year old fella who can't use it any more). Asking $13,800.

Any idea what a new price would have been, or if this price sounds good (it does to me)? Also, I have concerns that the 4200 might be too much bigger than the 4100 - turning radius, heigth, etc...

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks.

That 4200 is the same frame size as my 4300, and I am very happy with its size.
Does it have the turf tires or the R-4's? I don't find the R-4s any problem on the lawn, and are more rugged in the woods for brush cutting than the turfs would likely be. Just a thought.

It sure sounds like a good package, and a low number of hours.

I'd ask when the hyd fluid was changed and if not done, get them to do it for you. New filter and clean the screen filter off is the main thing to get done.

Hope you get a chance to drive it before buying, to help with your decision.

Hi,

This 4200 has turf tires. Do you have a 60" mower on your 4300, or larger? Do you use your 4300 w/R4s right up around the house, or do you dhave a smaller or push mower for those areas? I'd like to replace my JD 318 mower and Ford 8N with one CUT. I know the 4200 would be great for hogging, leveling and clearing, but I'm a little concerned about maneuverabilty in the yard...

Also, does the price seem decent?

Thanks...

I just traded my 2000 JD 4200 (198 hrs) on a new 4410. It was equiped the same as the one you are considering except no ballast box. It was a great machine for both finish mowing with the 60" MMM and handling loader work. It came up short, however, running my 60" Bushhog, (squealer) in tall field grasses, the reason why I traded for more power. The 4200 would probably handle a four foot rotary if you need that application. I found the tractor size to work well in confined areas. I had no reliability issues with the my 2000 4200. Based on what I received on trade, sounds like you are getting a good deal. The 4200 w/fel and MMM sold for about 20K. The MMM and FEL are not cheap options (about $6000, combined).
