2009 John Deere 5101E Limited
Alright, I am looking to get a new john deere larger than what I currently have. I have two options. What I need is a 5083 E Limited (4x4 with cab). 83 horse, loader, etc.. the price quoted on this one new is $39000 out the door. That's all the tractor that I need for what I do. On the lot, however, the dealer has a two month old (200 hours) 5101 with all the same settings, loader, cab, 4x4. This one also has the hay spear with it $600. Farmer bought it and traded it two months later for another of his larger tractors. It's in great shape and is only $2500 more bringing it to $41500 out the door.

My questions. I have never bought a tractor this size and have no idea what the pricing is like. Which would you go for? Is $41500 decent on a used 5101? How about $38,000 on a new 5083 with loader and cab and 4x4?

Opinions appreciated.

On the 5083 tractor the 38000 to 39000 is about the same as list price so the loader added in is your discount.

On the 5101 the list new is 46,000 and since it has a loader too it would seem that it is discounted about 4500 in addition for the used status. If you can get the remainder of the warranty and this is only a few months old and in excellent condition I would go for the 5101. This is an 8000 lb. + tractor (with limited added ballast) and the extra power could come in handy.

I appreciate the help. It was usefull in making the decision. We decided to go with the 5101. I'll take delivery on Tuesday. It's going to be a difficult three days. :)

Is that a 5101E limited?

It has 200 hours on it - I think it should be cheaper than a new 5083 or atleast around the same price.
